Cain Pseudomantis leads a miserable life. Bound to the mortal world by a powerful spell no demon could hope to break, he must obey his human master’s every command or face harsh punishment. He finds solace in the rock music which he listens to when he isn’t running unsavory errands for his master. Then everything changes. While on a mission in a seedy section of 1980s Los Angeles, Cain impulsively buys an electric guitar and discovers an unusual talent for music, a talent that catapults him to hair metal stardom. With three superpowered human band mates and his beautiful girlfriend Michelle by his side, his life starts to look a lot better. But Cain soon finds that even rock stars have troubles. The crusading televangelist Nathaniel Breen—who happens to be Michelle’s father—accuses him of turning the city’s youth to Satan worship. Meanwhile a mysterious killer known only as the Engineer terrorizes the Los Angeles rock scene with a series of brutal murders. When Cain and his friends attempt to unmask the killer, they discover a deadly secret that could cost Cain his hard-won freedom, and possibly his life.

REVIEW

Although urban fantasy is what I would go for, when asked to choose a book, this is something I would not immediately pick up.  But, after reading this book, I don't regret even the slightest picking this up.

Cain is a demon, who is enslaved by Mr. Warwick and treated badly.  He is sent out on errands by his master, which he has no memories on, later.  He was sent out to find a girl for Warwick's son, Lance, and make her love Lance.  But, when Cain goes to LA, everything changes for his good.  He makes new friends, finds a new talent in the electric guitar and above all, he may also be liking Michelle, who is the girl he was sent to find and deliver, which he has no intention of doing.  Meanwhile, there is a serial killer on the loose, who targets young men involved with music.  Cain and his friends need to find the killer before he draws close to any of them.

It was a big read, but a good read!  Interesting premise!  Wild and different characters!  You couldn't make a demon more interesting than this.  Yeah, at first I had my doubts.  How can a demon be so spineless?  But, there was some past involved in this as well.  He was trained to be like a dog, just to do his master's bidding that he became fearful to show his feelings at anything.  But, as he becomes free of his master's control, his real strength began to show.  And there were so many different side characters that are interesting to read.  There could be more on Cain's past, which would have helped for better understanding.

The killer's premise was also brought on well.  The suspense went hand in hand with fantasy and it worked too.  Although you will be able to guess who the killer is, after some time, it still will not stop you from reading more.

There are some unanswered questions, but I suppose that this is a series, so it doesn't end here.

Interesting and recommended read for someone who wishes to try something different!

Life Of A Blogger: 10 things I’ll never do

We all have some things we would never ever do.

I have some too..

1.  I will never do a house chore that is not extremely urgent when I have my favorite book waiting for me.

2.  I will never be satisfied with my collection of clothes.

3.  I will never live without an electronic gadget (Kindle, tablet, PC, laptop, smartphone) near me.

4.  I have a full time job and my working time is 9 hours.  I know after many experimentations that I will never work the full 9 hours productively. (Please someone say I am not alone in this..this is normal, right?)

5.  I will never get rid of the habit of checking my mails every time I see my mobile on the table.  I am not even that busy person, who gets important mails all the time.  But, still I think some habits are hard to give up.

6.  I will never ride the bus that is over-crowded again.  Once I have to do this every single day, but now?  NO, A BIG NO!  Don't think I am exaggerating.  You must see our buses (see picture below), if you have to know what I am speaking about.

7.  I will never stop re-reading Harry Potter.  It's been so many years, and I still always feel the need to go back to that one series again and again, just after a few months of finishing them...again.

8.  I will never stop talking, even when I know I should.  Like when my husband is extremely angry or my boss is being an idiot!

9.  I will never travel anywhere without a book (or a Kindle).  I will deeply regret it, if I forget this..happened only once or twice in my life.

10;  I will never love another person in the world, the same way I love my husband. (Awwww!  I know! :))

So, that's it!  What are yours?  Tell me the things you will never do.....

Interview & $50 Amazon/B&N Gift Card Giveaway: Deceived by L.A. Starkey

They say a soul is the immaterial essence, the animating principal, the actuating cause of an individual life.

But what if you had to share yours with the one person you hated the most?

The soul mate principal states that for every one soul there is another that will recognize its match, hence creating the perfect union.

But what if you had two soul mates, which would you choose?

What if your choices had eternal ramification?

Deceived, the debut novel in the Soul Keeper Series, is a modern day love story about the implications of having more than one soul mate, and having to choose between the two of them. The decisions of the gods has left the next generation, their heirs, torn between fate and reality, and the balance of the future hangs in anticipation of what's to come.

INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR L.A. STARKEY

What is your least favorite word?
Um. I’m not sure if it’s a word, um, but, um, it takes, um, up a lot of, um, space. I hate commas too. Probably um’s fault.

What part of the writing process do you dread?
Oh… editing. I’d rather brush my teeth with superglue than edit a manuscript. I’m a math girl and this grammar thing has become my nemesis. If I ever strike gold with my books I’m not going to buy a large house or a new car. I’m going to get an editor.

What is your favorite Joke?
Two sisters, one blonde and one brunette, inherit the family ranch. Unfortunately, after just a few years, they are in financial trouble. In order to keep the bank from re-possessing the ranch they need to purchase a bull from*a stockyard in a far-away town so that they can breed their own stock. They only have $600 left.

Upon leaving, the brunette tells her sister, "When I get there, if I decide to buy the bull, I'll contact you to drive out after me and haul it home."

The brunette arrives at the stockyard, inspects the bull, and decides she wants to buy it. The man tells her that he will sell it for $599, no less. After paying him, she drives to the nearest town to send her sister a telegram to tell her the news.

She walks into the telegraph office, and says, "I want to send a telegram to my sister telling her that I've bought a bull for our ranch. I need her to hitch the trailer to our pickup truck and drive out here so we can haul it home."

The telegraph operator explains that he'll be glad to help her, then adds, "It's just 99 cents a word." Well, after paying for the bull, the brunette only has $1 left. She realizes that she'll only be able to send her sister one word. After a few minutes of thinking, she nods and says, "I want you to send her the word "comfortable."

The operator shakes his head. "How is she ever going to know that you want her to hitch the trailer to your pickup truck and drive out here to haul that bull back to your ranch if you send her just the word "comfortable??”

The brunette explains, "My sister's blonde. The word's big. She'll read it very slowly...
com-for-da-bull."

(Borrowed the exact wording from http://www.funnyville.com/Blonde-Jokes/Come-for-the-bull.html)

Where do you get your best ideas?
From life. I try hard to pay attention to the characters in my real life and use a lot of them in my books. If I’m running dry, music is always something that will help bring me back. I write what I’d love to read really.

What do you do to relax?
I rarely relax, which is a weakness of sorts. I think I need to purchase a tranquilizer gun so that my husband can put me down when I need to take a break. The only relaxing things I force myself to do are taking bubble baths now and again and lounging in the pool in the backyard.
